What is Bullying?
Bullying is a word that comes
from the Dutch vocabulary that
means harassment. Formerly this word was
not used, but due to the alarming increase in cases of attacks that are being detected in schools, leading many students to experience situations truly frightening is that now we are talking about it anymore.
Bullying occurs everywhere,
not exclusive to any sector of society or about sex, although the profile of the offender himself is more apparent in males. The attacker harasses
the victim when he is alone, in
bathrooms, hallways, in the dining room in
the yard. For this reason, teachers
often do not realize the damage
that is happening with their
students. But this is not a simple push or comments, this is a situation that if not stopped in time can cause extensive damage to the victim,
either emotionally or physically.
This practice becomes common in other parts of the world is adapting the technology resulting in cyber bullying,
in a nutshell is harassment via the Internet specifically on websites, blogs or
emails.
Effects of Bullying
The Specialist Medical
Center 'Dr. Ignacio
Chavez 'Institute for Safety and Social Services Workers Sonora (ISSSTESON),
Ericka Alday Jiménez explained that bullying is an issue.
He
stressed that the 'bullying' can be considered a public health problem, because
there are more cases that are attended by such circumstances.
The
incidence in the outpatient clinic at the hospital of the capital is two to
five cases per month, mainly in male children aged 9 to 12 years old,
entry-level students.
The
specialist in clinical psychology said that the conduct of harassment by the
'bullying' directly affect the self-esteem and sometimes leave their mark over
growth.
It
is considered, said that bullying whether verbal or physical conduct of
repeatedly causes other effects such as behavioral disorders, depression and in
extreme cases even suicide.
The
victims were identified by lack of appetite, depressed, lower school
performance, are nervous, distant, scared, irritable, not wanting to go to
school and may have physical injuries such as bruises or scratches.
"It
is unfortunate to detect this type of abuse and a diagnosis is difficult to
define given that the child represses his emotions, expressing other
disturbances or psychosomatic
symptoms" established.
Alday
Jimenez said that in most cases parents do not detect the problem until it is
well advanced.
He
said that the 'bullying' identify different characters such as the victim, the
bully and the observer, in the case of harassing behavior may reflect violent
family relationships they observe at home or in your neighborhood.
He
said the psychological support offered by the Medical Center 'Dr. Ignacio
Chavez 'to cases of children affected by bullying, are individual therapy and
couple counseling is provided to parents with specific indications.
We
recommend creating a family atmosphere of respect, be more alert to the daily
events, involving teachers, reinforce positive behavior verbally or with a
prize and seek entertainment to motivate the victim.
Another
suggestion is that parents do not demand the expulsion of the child stalker,
because it would preclude the power to correct the problem, as it should seek a
healthy integration in social life and school context.
Recommendations
to Prevent Bullying
In the family
The
family is the main source of love and education of children; from it the child
learns to socialize based on what values, norms and behaviors taught at home,
avoid our home will be a hostile or otherwise too permissive,
rest assured that this will always ensure that children acquire aggressive
behavior.
Another
role of the family is to be constantly informed, there are courses where
parents guidance about keeping their children away from the bullying, they are
usually based on love and communication between parents and children,
immediately observed for any abnormal
behavior in the child, be aware of the activities of his son, the existence of
limits and standards, so as to ensure performance.
These
courses give special attention to emotional intelligence, ie teach parents how
to help their children to control their emotions and behavior towards others so
that they can live healthily.
In school
The
discipline is maintained in the classroom and school in general is essential
for building good behavior.
It
is important to the supervision of students in and out of classrooms,
playgrounds, bathrooms, kitchens, etc..
Establish
clear school rules and actions to be taken in behaviors such as bullying.
Act
quickly, directly and forcefully in the case of this is any suspicion of
bullying.
The
school must be open to complaints and suggestions from students and parents,
suggested the
placement of a mailbox.
Courses
or conferences for parents and teachers where they can address issues such as
bullying.
Add
or strengthen the issue of values education in the course of the students.
Teachers
can rely on students to identify harassment, must be very smart and know who
can give valuable information.
Government institutions
Just
as there are hotlines to talk or ask about birth control, depression, AIDS,
alcoholism, etc., must have open lines for children to talk and report
conflicts that live inside and outside the home.
There
should be more campaigns to inform parents about this situation, how they can
be detected, treated and prevented.
Media and
society in general
Children
are much given to watching the action and violence and believe it or not they
influence their behavior too. The
mass media should be more aware of it and control over the content they
broadcast or publish.
Society
in general can also help prevent and tackle bullying among children, watching
and not letting this kind of suituaciones because we think it's a joke.
When
a child teases, threatens or hits another child, it must intervene so that will
not recur.

Comments and Conclusions
The bullyng is a problem affecting the social-psychological level people. Is given by certain factors in the person who practices it is often the lack of attention and confidence.
It's a big social
problem as it affects the harmony in which they live or interact a
certain group of people.
How to prevent it is to address the
problem directly with the
person who commits it to determine patterns of behavior in which lives and
grows.
